Be it for their aesthetic appeal, historical relevance, or just their cool appearance on a hot day, these fountains are well-known landmarks that embodies Novosibirsk.

Cashcade Fountain in Pervomaisky Square

Central District, "Lenin Square" Metro Station, St.

Undoubtedly, everyone who lives in Novosibirsk or has ever visited the city is aware of this fountain. At the Pervomaisky Square entrance, the oldest fountain has already celebrated its 80th birthday! In actuality, this was Novosibirsk’s first fountain at the time; prior to it, there was just no reliable water source in this area.

Many obstacles, ranging from theft and carelessness to actual technical issues, beset its creation. For instance, poor cement quality caused the foundation to leak continuously, and the copper cascade tubes were stolen the night following the ominous opening in 1935.

Nevertheless, a magnificent fountain was built, and for many years, it has brought joy to everyone who walks in the square or passes by. Swishing from the fountain bowl, seven hundred jets dance in a triple pool cascade. People are constantly attempting to touch its jets, especially the children, who are naturally the most numerous.

The "Bear Cub" fountain in Pervomaysky Square

"Lenin Square" metro station, Central District, St.

A small "children’s" fountain with water jets surrounding it, shaped like a bear cub, sits modestly next to the larger fountain. The bowl of the pool where the bear cub is sitting is below the alley’s level, and newlyweds adore the lovely mini-bridge that was constructed on its edge. Even though the fountain is quite small and basic, Novosibirsk locals of all ages adore it because the bear cub has already greeted several generations of walkers.

It’s true that the bear was once smaller and enjoyed playing with a jet in the fountain with its paw. However, Mishka’s paw was gradually destroyed by the water, and after multiple restorations, the sculpture was swapped out for a metal one that altered the jet’s direction.

It’s likely that many of us have early memories connected to this adorable little bear, and we think our kids will too.

Fountain at the Globe Theater

Central District, Art. Metro "Lenin Square," ul. Kamenskaya, d.1. It is operational for 12–22 hours.

The Globe’s Square is a well-liked gathering spot, in large part because of its magnificent fountain. The construction of this fountain marked the start of a new "era" in the city’s growth. In 1993, Novosibirsk celebrated its centennial by building its first light and music fountain. Its seven hundred and fifty jets, each lit in turn by over a hundred lamps in four different colors, varied in height in time with the dancing. With its debut, the custom of kicking off the fountain season on Victory Day eve was established.

The man responsible for creating this fountain, Leonid Zotov, overcame many obstacles during those trying times to leave the city with this masterpiece. Today, he oversees all of the city’s major fountains, and their number keeps increasing yearly!

They claim that this fountain served as the model for our neighbors in Krasnoyarsk, who managed to outnumber us in the number of fountains they built in their city.

The third floor of the Youth Theater housed the fountain control panel until recently. The fountain is now automatically controlled and operates from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., every day except Mondays. It was rebuilt recently. You can see special light effects starting at 1:00 PM.

Fountain on the Ob

Oktyabrsky district, "Rechnoy Vokzal" metro station, "Gorodskoye Nachalo" park.

Possibly the strangest fountain in the entire city. It’s situated on the water, not in a park or on a square! Directly across from the "City Beginning" park, a few dozen meters from the shore, three fountains flow from the Ob. It was written by Leonid Zotov and is over a decade old.

With the exception of Mondays, the fountain is open from May to September from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. During the evenings, up to 400 strong lamps are turned on to create the most exquisite lighting.

The strongest fountain complex in Novosibirsk is this one. It stands thirty-two meters tall! Three tons of water are thrown up every second.

Huge pumps, each weighing roughly a ton, are taken out of their anchors and sent to the Zaton region for the winter.

Fountain "River Civilizations of Siberia" at the State Public Scientific and Technical Library

Oktyabrsky District, Pimenova Plaza, "Oktyabrskaya" metro station.

Like the State Public Scientific and Technical Library building itself, this fountain is young and very impressive, as is the square where it is situated. Its name is equally significant. This is but a portion of a larger project (the author, Leonid Zotov, is also involved), which calls for the construction of a complex of seven fountains here, each honoring one of Siberia’s rivers. If this project—along with the rest of the square’s improvements—is carried out, city dwellers will have a very fascinating and lovely area for relaxation and strolls.

It represents the Ob with its sources, Biya and Katun, and was inaugurated in 2007. The fountain is divided into three smaller bowls and a central bowl, with two levels.

This fountain’s central stream soars to a height of 20 meters, and it also features music and light features.

The red granite fountain bowl and the memorial stele honoring the labor of Leningraders evacuated to Novosibirsk are intriguing features. The fountains and the stele both evoke thoughts of the northern capital, and when seen as a whole, they give an extremely natural impression.

Fountain at the DK im. Gorky

"DK named after Gorky," Kalininsky district, ul. Bogdana Khmelnitsky, D. 40, stop.

Gorky’s DK is regarded as one of the district of Kalininsky’s symbols. This palace is approximately sixty years old; it is a prime example of post-war architecture, as is the fountain in front of it. Despite its modest size, the fountain perfectly complements the Community Center’s ceremonial, slightly ostentatious appearance.

But in actuality, the fountain we see today is actually its younger brother. The fountain was rebuilt a long time ago; time had taken its toll.

A new marble fountain with additions, redesigned pipes, and fish-shaped streams was created in 2007 based on the original drawing. The architects were successful in capturing the essence of that era in their designs. The whole place was landscaped at the same time, with flower beds and lawns decorated. These days, the fountain and the Gorky Palace of Culture serve as actual city decorations.

Fountain near the Palace of Culture "Energy"

Krasny pr-t, d. 171/4, Zayeltsovsky district, ost. "DK Energia".

Constructed in 1953, DK "Energia," formerly known as "Zhdanov Club," is another example of a post-war monument. Furthermore, the building’s architectural design strongly recalls the Gorky Palace of Culture. The area in front of the Palace of Culture was merely paved until the fountain appeared here approximately five years ago. The district government and a number of businesses worked together to implement this project.

With the use of modern technology, the fountain’s pressure and jet height are easily adjustable in response to weather conditions. The fountain is lighted by clusters of lamps in the evenings. Beautifully, water spills into the lower bowl from the upper one.

"The Zaeltsovsky registry office is close by, which is likely a major factor in the locals’ decision to name it the "fountain of love" and dedicate it to all lovers.

Fountain near the DKZh

Subdivision Zheleznodorozhny, Chelyuskintsev Street, D. 11, metro station "Garin-Mikhailovsky Square" From 5 p.m. to 2 p.m., open.

Unlike its counterparts, the more contemporary Railway Workers’ Palace of Culture features a very unique, non-ceremonial classical fountain on the surrounding property.

This original fountain is almost entirely underground, hence the term "dry," or underground. Just twenty-one jets make up the visible portion of it, and they beat "from under the ground." Kids adore sprinting across the space as the jets beat in a seemingly random pattern.

It’s true that this fountain has a rough life; two years ago, the pipes froze and required extensive repairs. Although it regrettably doesn’t function very frequently, city dwellers are frequently pleased.

Fountain in Narymsky Square

Zheleznodorozhny District, "Krasny Prospekt" metro station.

For locals, Narymsky Square is a must-go-to location for strolls; it’s lovely and well-kept, with wide alleys and a variety of ornamental trees, shrubs, and flowers. After following the main alley—which is lined with lilac trees—to the intersection, we will arrive at the park’s center, where the fountain is. The memorial plaque that reads, "To Novosibirsk in honor of the 70th anniversary of the Zheleznodorozhny district from the MUP Gorvodokanal," indicates that it was installed ten years ago, in 2006.

The fountain located in Narymsky Square is not as large as its counterpart in Novosibirsk. It is a six-meter pool with 72 jets rising from its edges. They form a semicircle when they cross in the middle, above the central bowl.

Of course, a lot of people congregate near the fountain on hot days, especially kids. Sadly, the people’s love is sometimes shown by actively "rock" painting on its sides and adding different chemicals to it.

Fountain "Dandelion" in the park named after. Kirov

"PKiO im. Kirov", ost. Leninsky district.

The Kirov district has fewer fountains than the right bank, which is unfortunate. The most well-known of them is located in Kirov’s park. However, because of its circular bowl, this fountain is also known as "the sun" and is adored by all the locals.

The fountain was designed by architects Shulgin and Drachev in 2003 to commemorate the city’s anniversary. It is made up of multiple spheres and a central bowl, and tiny streams come from various sides to wash the flower.

It should be noted that there is a "brother" fountain in the "Sun City" shopping center. When the weather is hot, you can find shade under the "dandelion," and when it’s cool, you can simply enjoy the play of splashes. And a lot of people come here because Kirov Park is regarded as the Left Bank’s greatest spot for leisure.

Fountain at the Novosibirsk-Glavny railway station

Zheleznodorozhny district, Garin-Mikhailovsky Square metro station.

Beside the suburban ticket offices, adjacent to our station’s renowned main building, is a small, quaint park that is easily overlooked. There’s a glass pavilion with a model of the first steam locomotive close by, and the park itself has lovely benches and original flower beds. A fountain in the middle of the square was inaugurated in 2006. Because it is perched on a hill, even the tiniest splashes in windy conditions rehydrate everyone who happens to be in the square.

The jets shoot out of multiple bowls, arranged one above the other, in a cascade. This historic fountain is particularly lovely at night, when the station’s lighting frames its illumination.

Since trains run nonstop, visitors can take in the fountain at any time of day.

Fountain near the new building of NSU

Saint. Pirogov, Sovetsky district, 1.

Just three weeks ago, on June 6, the youngest fountain in our review was formally opened in front of the university administration. The NSU classical music club and chamber orchestra also took part. Its intricate design makes it anything but ordinary, as befits a fountain at a university. It has 32 jets that can reach a height of two meters. By choosing one of the preset modes, you can regulate how they move. The fountain also has lighting and music features; its multicolored illumination, which changes color in time with the music, is particularly lovely in the evenings.

Notwithstanding the fences surrounding it, the fountain is regarded as pedestrian.

However, the rector himself claims that the fence was only put in place to protect kids from falling and getting hurt on the ribbed surface. And it’s generally not forbidden to stroll in the heat between the jets!

The fountain, which cost roughly 9.5 thousand rubles to build, was created by the Barnaul company "Atlantika."

Discovering Novosibirsk’s fountains is a wonderful way to take in the charm of the city while getting some fresh air. Because each fountain has a distinct appearance and ambiance, both locals and tourists adore these locations.

The fountains in Novosibirsk provide something for everyone, whether you’re searching for a quiet spot to unwind or an exciting place to take the family on adventures. From bustling city squares to serene parks, these fountains enhance the beauty and vibrancy of the urban environment.

Take some time to visit these amazing fountains and enjoy their refreshing presence the next time you’re in Novosibirsk. They are landmarks that encapsulate the essence of the city, not just water features.
