People have always been captivated by dolphins because of their intelligence, playful nature, and special capacity for communication. These amazing animals have a unique bond with humans that goes beyond the typical one between humans and wildlife; they are more than just sea creatures.
Dolphins are highly revered in many cultures and have been used as symbols of friendship and companionship throughout history. Dolphins have inspired and amazed people throughout history, from classical myths to contemporary tales.
But why do we feel such a connection to dolphins, and what is it about them that attracts people? This essay examines the bond between people and dolphins, illuminating the ways in which these amazing creatures affect our daily existence.

You can now swim with dolphins in the Novosibirsk Dolphinarium!
Journalists were invited to visit him on February 15th, by the Novosibirsk Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology "Dolphinia," to share in his happiness. The Dolphin Swimming Center opened there a few days prior, following the center’s hygienic "vacation."
Five minutes of happiness
As the press gathered inside the pavilion to take pictures of the three pools featuring Black Sea bottlenose dolphins, Sofia Skripko was having fun in one of them alongside the dolphin Nyusha. She received a visit to the recently opened Dolphin Swimming Center as a birthday present. The present is pricey:
Five minutes of those fifteen are spent in direct contact with the dolphin, and the entire 15-minute visit costs 5,000 rubles. Additionally, while being watched over by a trainer, you can communicate from the pool’s edge while "playing" with a dolphin with a ball for no more than five minutes.
What a lucky number "5". Nonetheless, "five minutes are quite enough for delight and happiness," as Sonya put it. True, she said right away:
Naturally, I didn’t want to leave the pool, but as adults, we realize that there might be a wait to see the dolphin and that he needs time to recuperate before continuing his working day with other guests.
As of now, there is no line to see the dolphins. But the dolphins just want to play; they don’t give a damn. Seva is the youngest member of the sea trinity; the other two are Tema, who is eight years old, and Nyusha, who is seven. Seva is four years old. Since Seva is a teenager, he acts like a child when he plays with a ball, jumps out of the water, teases others, and sticks out his tongue. He loves girls and has a big smile on his face. and every variety, including dolphin and human.
Tema is a mature, dignified, and thoughtful young man. However, he is also friendlier than the irresponsible Seva. Nyusha, a typical "girly girl," loves to wear rings and plays with a ball. She also constantly directs her gaze toward Tema. She ought to be staring at the young man who joined her for a swim. Every single one of them is so unique!
The Oceanography Center’s senior trainer, Daria Glukhova, gave us an overview of marine biology. She also explained to me the schedule for visiting the Swimming Center, the daily activities of marine life, and who is allowed to swim with dolphins.
From five years to infinity
When working with people who initially want to swim, serious work is done. They learn about the guidelines and prerequisites, as well as any potential barriers that might keep them from getting up close and personal with marine life. Enough limitations exist. A person shouldn’t, for instance, have viral illnesses like acute respiratory infections, their skin should be clean (a doctor checks at the door), they shouldn’t smell like alcohol, and getting implants is not allowed.
Like humans, animals have a set workday that runs from 10:00 to 20:00. They have breaks for food and relaxation throughout the morning, midday, and evening hours of their day. Here, the dolphins are fed squid, red fish, and Black Sea horse mackerel, all of which are delicious. Everybody consumes 8–10 kg of food daily.
We do our best to spoil our pets, Daria acknowledges.
Age restrictions apply in addition to health restrictions because the trainers do not want the young ones to be afraid of the large animals.
Kids as young as five years old are permitted to swim with dolphins, but only in the company of an adult. This could be a parent or guardian, one of the staff trainers, or simply the adult that brought the child to the dolphinarium. Children aged five to seven are covered by this rule. It is imperative that children wear life jackets for their own safety and comfort. The jacket keeps them afloat, saving you from having to expend energy flapping your arms and legs to stay afloat.
Adults have no age restrictions, not even when they reach 100 years old. For the visitor’s comfort, Daria only asks that these "age" visits be scheduled in conjunction with her directly. If there are any issues, the trainer will be there to assist: head to the water and provide side support.
Professional calculations are used to determine the animals’ burden; only one person swims with a dolphin every 30 minutes. The animal has fifteen to twenty minutes to relax before the next visitor arrives. After two hours of labor, the dolphins take a one-hour break. The animals can play, run around, and interact with each other at this hour because the trainers have opened the gates that separate the pools and given them balls and toys. Monday is a day off, the center is closed, and everyone takes a nap.
Regardless of the season, the water temperature in every pool is 22 degrees. For dolphins, it is thought to be the most comfortable. You can swim in just a bathing suit, but if any of the guests feel too cold or want to take a picture of themselves looking like "amphibian men," they can put on a wetsuit. Just like in a typical pool, you must shower before entering the water.
Water filtration receives special consideration. Daria Glukhova clarified that filtration lasts for a full day. Water and air indicators are monitored throughout the entire laboratory.
Dolphins are among the few animals that have intimate relationships with humans due to their exceptional intelligence and strong social bonds. Throughout history, tales of human-dolphin bonds have been inspired by their playful demeanor and remarkable communication abilities, which have captivated scientists. Gaining knowledge about these amazing animals not only increases our respect for them but also emphasizes how crucial it is to preserve marine life and promote harmony between humans and the natural world.
Not dolphin therapy, but just communication
The visitor has the option to swim with one or more dolphins, if that is his true desire. Stars, after all, have fans. However, dolphins may refuse to swim with a person due to mood swings, just like people, albeit much less frequently. The trainers in this instance offer to transfer to a different dolphin and pool.
This dolphin swimming service is purely recreational right now. However, as the senior trainer mentioned, a number of additional services—possibly therapeutic in nature—are slated to be introduced in the future:
– Although this is contact with dolphins rather than therapy, therapy is still a form of treatment.
Dolphins are amazing animals that resemble humans in many ways, including intelligence and the capacity for strong relationships. They are among the most fascinating animals to study because of their sophisticated social behaviors and communication abilities.
For centuries, people have been interacting with dolphins, either in the wild or in scientific settings. These interactions serve as a reminder of the strong bonds that exist between us and other species on Earth.
Gaining an appreciation and understanding of dolphins not only broadens our understanding of the natural world but also emphasizes how crucial it is to preserve these amazing creatures for coming generations.
