We want to know: about the events of the coming year..

What the coming year has in store for us?

  • Put on felt boots, a quilted jacket, a fur hat at an angle and – forward, to the street! There, each of the fortunetellers takes a twig and sticks it into the ground near the house. In the morning, the owners of the most persistent sticks can rejoice heartily, unlike those whose sticks during the night… ummm… fell.
  • The method of our Czech comrades in fortune telling: an apple is taken from a vase, cut across, and if a regular even star is found in the cross-section, then the year promises to be unusually correct, even and starry.
  • The simplest fortune telling from the grandmothers of the Pskov province. Take a saucer, pour water into it and put all this stuff out in the cold. In the morning, look at the surface of the ice: various “bulges” are interpreted as a positive sign, “concavities” – as a negative.

We want to know, what will happen..

A year being "good" or "bad" is a personal opinion. Let’s be clear about what will and won’t occur in the upcoming year. First, we define a variety of events that could occur this year, both significant and not. Which items on this list will come to pass?

  • Take a bowl, fill it with water. Along the edges, stick stickers with our events (you will get a chamomile with petals inward). Then take walnut shells, fix small candles in them. Or simply – small floating candles. Each of the fortunetellers should have their own "boat", so it is more convenient for the candles to be of different colors. Everything is ready! Let"s launch the boats, those "events" that your boat sets on fire will happen this year!
  • If collecting boats and sticking stickers is a completely impossible task for you, then we are coming to you. There is a wonderful in its simplicity method with a funny name "fortune telling on raffles". Take a piece of paper, line it up into rectangles, and write one of our events in each rectangle. That"s it – the "raffles" are ready! Now we throw a small handful of dried peas (or coffee beans, or beads) onto this fateful leaf. The events corresponding to the cells on which the "chips" landed should happen in the coming year!

A blunt question

We suggest using book fortune telling if, on the eve of the new year, you find yourself worrying about a crucial question that only a wise, compassionate, and all-knowing guru can provide an answer to. You will need a book for this, that’s correct. preferably of a complex, moralizing kind. As you hold the book in your hands, ask yourself the question. Next, there are potential choices:

A) pick a random page to open in the book, then use your left thumb to read the sentence;

B) Locate and read the paragraph (line) and page number that come to mind.

After that, you can conclude by interpreting what you read as a response to the query posed.

Interpretation of fortune telling by Yu-mam: You can do this kind of fortune telling without taking a break from your work, that is, without going outside the Yum-Mama forums. Create a query, and after that… Select a topic at random, browse through it at random, and then read the first post. You can consider the serial number for the post to be similar to the page number!

What could this mean?

On long Christmas evenings, our great-great-great-grandmothers would tell fortunes on burnt bits of paper, egg whites, coffee grounds, and other indistinct objects.

In order to tell such fortunes, we basically need to know the exact locations where we will make our predictions about specific objects and omens. There are several ways to accomplish this:

  • Take a larger piece of paper, the easiest way is a newspaper. Angrily crumple it into a ball, put it on a plate and set it on fire. When the flame goes out, take a candle and try to get a shadow from the remains of the paper on the wall (if desired, you can turn it plate in any direction). The resulting shadow is the desired spot.
  • Pour milk into a saucer, put it at the threshold. Melt the wax. Then we say the mysterious phrase: “Brownie, my master, come to the threshold to drink milk, to eat wax,” and with the last words we pour the melted wax into the milk. When the wax hardens a little, our stain is ready.
  • You can pour boiling water into a saucer, and, without any spells, simply pour the egg white there. It will quickly curdle and also form a stain.
  • We brew coffee (with the grounds, of course), drink it, cover the mug with a saucer and turn it back and forth three times. After this, a wonderful stain should form from the grounds on the saucer.

The top Russian experts on great-great-grandmothers’ stain interpretations are provided below:

Fan: conflict in the team, problems at work, reorganization, or even business liquidation.

Glory in a wreath.

Grapes: luck, wealth, love, and friendship.

Gate: visitors’ arrival.

Mountain: a challenging route in life.

Mushroom: vigor, endurance, and long life.

A house is a sign of plenty.

Dragon: "high flight," realizing dreams, finishing a task, or having a child.

Stars: happy serving others and studying.

Beast: there will be an adversary.

Bell: good news; symmetrical bells: bad news; chipped or crooked bells: bad news; multiple bells: alarm.

Cross – ailments, problems, etc.

Forest: a source of wealth.

Staircase: reaching the intended destination.

Tree leaf: jealousy and intrigue in others.

A field or meadow with grazing animals is the source of one’s desires.

Mill – falsehoods.

The monkey: a fake friend, a façade, an unclear circumstance.

Deer – the expressway.

Stripes: moving, road.

Canine companionship.

Cliff: depressing, gloomy, and isolated.

Flower: for a happy marriage or a new acquaintance.

Church, bell tower, homecoming.

Man, meet your new pal.

Pants: a crossroads or fork in the road.

Apples are a symbol of health, wisdom, and life. The figure’s meaning improves with increased resemblance to a real apple.

An uneven, unshaped apple may indicate a temptation you should resist.

Eggs are a traditional representation of the obscure and unreal. can represent worries and anxieties, but it can also represent the start of something new.

Additionally, if numerous round, tiny spots have formed in addition to a few large ones, this is unquestionably for financial gain.

The Yu-mom interpretation of fortune telling involves starting a forum thread where you can share your fortune on any subject, but ideally one that will hold particular significance for you in the upcoming year. Take note of what has been checked in; does it remain on the top page or did it drop off right away? How many people have viewed it? Does it contain more positive or negative statements? Analysis should consider the emergence of spammers, top-level messages from moderators, removal or closure of the topic, and more!

Fortune telling about children

This year, will there be a baby born? Who will it be, a boy or a girl? For Christmastide, let’s set aside temperature charts, tables, and other pregnancy-inducing objects and instead, like our ancient ancestors, tell children’s fortunes!

  • We take a rope (thread) and tie the load to it. In different versions, this is a wedding ring or needle with a thread – it is not important. We lower the, so to speak, tool between the thumb and forefinger of the open palm as many times as it has already been lived. Then we place the weight over the center of the palm and look: if the load sways in a straight line, the boy will be born first, if in a circle, a girl. If the load is swinging flatly, the weather forecasters do not promise you children. You can guess further: we lower our detailed device between the fingers 3 more times, and again observe the behavior of the cargo.
  • We take a glass, pour water there and, for fidelity, lower the wedding ring. We put it all in the evening in the cold. Before going to bed, we look at the surface: tubercles are sons, and holes, respectively, – paws!

Fortune -telling to fulfill desires

We will require: twelve regular rectangular pieces of paper; one fortune-telling writing instrument (also a pen).

We write one wish that we hope to fulfill this year on each piece of paper. The pieces of paper are then placed beneath the pillow, where we spend the entire night, before going to bed. Remember to keep the pieces of paper under your pillow in the morning, and as soon as you wake up, draw three of them at random. This year, the wishes on these pieces of paper will most certainly come true!

Fortune telling about the betrothed

Naturally, fortune telling about men has always been, continues to be, and will continue to be the most fascinating. Furthermore, it is equally fascinating to those who are married and single!

What is your name? Vlasom..

  • We run out into the street at night to pester the men we meet with the eternal question "What is your name?". Great-great-grandmothers claim that this is exactly what the future husband will be called.
  • If you do not go out at night, then the already familiar to us rectangular pieces of paper, weights with threads and basins with water. We make the raffles described above – 99 cells with letters of the Russian alphabet, t.e. each letter of the alphabet will be repeated three times. We throw chips on the raffle, and then play the educational game for adults "Make a male name from the proposed letters".
  • We take a basin, pour some water. Next, we write male names on pieces of paper (you can directly rewrite them in a column from the dictionary of male names), and then the years of the proposed wedding. All the received pieces of paper are tightly rolled into tubes, thrown into the water, and those that unfold in the water first will indicate the name and year of your wedding.
  • We take wet pieces of paper with male names left over from the previous fortune-telling. We put them in a circle. We put a needle with a thread on the tip in the center of the circle, hold the thread and watch, near which name the needle will stop its rotation. Probably, you can do the same with the pieces of paper-years of the wedding, but great-great-grandmothers nothing was said about this.

And how old are you?

Sadly, there’s not a lot of information left by great-great-grandmothers on how to determine a future husband’s age. However, there is just one method!

We say things like, "Bark, bark, little dog, find out, find out, my betrothed," while we poke our heads out the window at night. Pay close attention to the little dog’s barking; a loud bark indicates a young husband, and a hoarse bark indicates an elderly one.

If the bridegroom appears in a dream..

If only I could get a glimpse of the groom. Yes, I can. There are a lot of different ways to see your partner in a dream, according to all of the great-great-grandmothers!

  • On the night from Monday to Tuesday, we put three bay leaves under the pillow. On one we write “Ananiy”, on the other “Azary” and on the third “Misael” and say the spell: “From Monday to Tuesday I look at the windowsill, let whoever dreams of me appear in my dream”. Another option is to take a spruce branch, put it in headboard. Before going to bed we say: "I"m going to bed on Monday, I"m putting a spruce tree at the head of my bed, let the one who thinks about me appear in my dreams".
  • On the night from Thursday to Friday, in order to see the groom, before going to bed, it is enough to simply say: “Thursday with Wednesday, Tuesday with Monday, Sunday with Saturday. Friday is one and I am young, alone. I am lying on the Zion Mountains, three angels at my head: one sees, another will tell, the third will show my fate".
  • If you go to bed where you have never gone before, then before going to bed do not forget to whisper: "In a new place, dream of a groom to the bride".
  • They say that you can put a comb under your pillow, saying: "My betrothed, my disguised one, comb my head". And that the betrothed will definitely come in a dream and comb my hair.
  • As a variant of the previous fortune-telling: less practical girls take a thimbleful of salt, a thimbleful of water, mix and eat. When going to bed, they say: "Who is my betrothed, who is my disguised one – he will give me a drink". The betrothed appears in a dream and gives me a drink.
  • Avid gamblers can try putting four card kings under their pillow and say: "Who is my betrothed, who is my disguised one – he will dream of me in dream". If you dream of the king of spades, the groom will be an old man and jealous, the king of hearts means young and rich, the king of clubs – expect matchmakers from a military man or businessman, and the king of diamonds – from the desired.
  • And finally – the funniest way. The first piece of dinner should be placed under the pillow, inviting the betrothed: “The mummer, the betrothed, come to me for dinner”.

Once on Epiphany evening…

Follow these steps to see your significant other in the mirror corridor:

– Take out all people and animals from the room, including birds and reptiles. You may, however, leave "one or two modest persons who are equally interested in the fortuneteller" as an exception. These people ought to be modest, though; avoid talking to strangers, looking in the mirror, and approaching fortune tellers.

– Set up two circular mirrors, one big and one small, across from one another. Two lit candles on the sides. Take a seat beside the little mirror and gaze into the larger one. You can make out a black, candlelit corridor in the reflection, with a man standing at its end.

– Throw a scarf on one of the mirrors or just take it off as soon as you see your partner in the mirror corridor.

Can"t wait to get married..

  • Take a glass, fill it with water 2/3, tie a string to a ring (preferably a smooth one, without stones). Now, holding the string, immerse it in water as many times as you are old, and then hold it over the water, but in a glass. According to great-great-grandmothers, it will certainly start swinging and hitting the walls of the glass. Count. At that age you will get married.
  • You can also do the following simple operation. In the evening, hang a towel outside with the words: "My betrothed, come and wipe your face". If the towel is damp by the morning, it means you are getting married this year. If not, then, alas, some other year!
  • You can also put a chicken feather on the threshold closer to midnight with the words: "There is an oak tree, on it there are 12 nests, in each nest there are 4 eggs, each egg contains 7 chicks, one of them – show yourself, let me know what to expect in the future!». And then – the most difficult part: you need to wait until someone enters this door. If the feather flies out the door, then, accordingly, this year you will also “fly away” to get married, if inside – then… You won’t fly away!

King? Prince? Shoemaker? Tailor?

Arrange a ring, a hook, and a piece of bread on the ground. Place an upside-down glass over each. Fill the glasses with the well-known phrase, "I twist, I spin, I want to deceive." Then, pick a glass at random. The groom will be a dandy if there is a ring under the glass; if there is bread, he will be a rich man; and if there is a hook, he will be a poor man (he will, like a hook, hunch over all his life, earning his bread).

Who will be the first of the friends to marry

A unique fortune-telling bonus from the union of great-great-grandmothers is yours if you plan to tell fortunes in the company of other insane people rather than by yourself!

  • Pour some grain into some deep dish and bury the ring there. Then each fortuneteller scoops up a handful of grain, whoever gets the ring will get married this year!
  • We give out a piece of thread to all fortune-telling lovers, all pieces are the same length. Everyone sets fire to their threads at the same time, the one whose thread burns out first will be the first to get married, but if your thread doesn’t burn out halfway and goes out, it means you’re not destined to get married this year!
  • For patient girls: each one takes an onion and plants it, whose onion sprouts faster will be the first to get married.
