How to enter the Suvorov Military School. Experience of 2025

A big step toward becoming a military person for many young people is enrolling in the Suvorov Military School. Serving their country is a personal goal for some, a family tradition for others. However, gaining admission to this esteemed institution requires more than just passing exams; it also requires discipline, preparation, and process understanding.

2016 saw intense competition and stringent admissions requirements. Candidates had to be academically, psychologically, and physically prepared. Children and parents alike had to make their way through medical exams, interviews, and paperwork.

Where and how to get information about submitting documents

Never trust the information on the Yekaterinburg Suvorov School’s official website! When you browse the website, you won’t find any information or suggestions about admission. It is advised that you give the admissions committee a lot of calls before going in person. Attempt to verify a few of their suggestions again, as the admissions committee might respond differently to the same query. Ask away! This will assist you in gathering supporting documentation and getting ready for admission.

Medical documents

The list of medical certificates and documents that must be submitted upon admission is on the Suvorov Military School website. Don"t be surprised, but the documents really need to be submitted in a paper-cardboard folder without plastic files, according to the inventory. Medical documents separately in a file. The first impression of high health requirements is not confirmed in practice! Treated erosive gastroduodenitis, a slight form of flat feet, stuttering, wearing glasses, increased obesity, spring respiratory allergies and many other things that scare parents do not impress the school doctors at all. On the day of admission, each parent has an interview with a doctor with a review of the medical record from the children"s clinic. In terms of time, this conversation takes no more than 5-7 minutes. This interview itself leaves the impression that doctors are seeing medical documents for the first time that were presented to them more than a month ago. It feels like this is some kind of medical improvisation "on the fly" for the doctor. Conclusion – the medical requirements are not that strict, and the meticulousness and scrupulousness of the doctors from the admissions committee is conditional, and therefore, if the child does not have a disability, most likely he is fit for admission. The phrase "strict medical selection" does not really sound like the truth.

The process in 2016 demonstrated that entering the Suvorov Military School can be a demanding but worthwhile experience. A number of tests, such as academic and physical fitness evaluations, must be passed by candidates, who must also exhibit excellent discipline and moral qualities. The role that parents play is vital in helping their children get ready for school, meet the high expectations, and adapt to the military-style setting. The keys to success are commitment, readiness, and comprehension of the expectations of the school.

Dates for submitting documents and exams

• anti-tuberculosis – you take an X-ray, take shoe covers, a pen, a card from the clinic, a vaccination certificate (or an extract on BCG and MONTU), sign up and go to the dispensary with your child (judging by the reviews – there are incredible queues, but we were there in May and the dispensary was empty);
• psychoneurological and narcological – make an appointment with a psychiatrist (phone number in the reception of your clinic), sometimes in the certificate the psychiatrist writes “not registered with a psychiatrist and narcologist», but this is usually in the cities of the region, and in Yekaterinburg you need to visit a narcologist at Iyulskaya, 76.

Following June 20, the school begins contacting applicants to let them know when the exam is scheduled. They gave us a call six days in advance. Exams are conducted Monday through Saturday, from July 1 to July 12 inclusive.

* The child’s legal representative must be present at the exam; this person may be the child’s parents, or another adult with power of attorney.

* The exam day (detailed below) begins at 8:00 and concludes with a final meeting at 17:00–18:00.

How the exam day is held at the Suvorov School

Regarding what does the Suvorov School website say nothing?

First, let’s talk about the purpose of the exam, the technology used to administer it, how points are calculated, and the exam day schedule.

There is absolutely no explanation on the website about the characteristics of the tests or the prerequisites for children’s readiness level. Everything is stylish; make your own judgment and wish for good fortune.

Schedule of the exam day

– 8 a.m. arrival. Admission to the school in accordance with the roster.

– Arrival registration from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

You need to have the following with you:

* Fourth-grade report card (on form), sealed and signed by the class teacher, the principal, and the school.

* A thick notebook (medical card) from the pediatric clinic.

* Athletic footwear and apparel (based on weather conditions).

* Stationery (ruler, eraser, pencil, and pen).

– An informational speech by the school directors from 8:30 to 9:00. The schedule for the examination will be explained. They will go over organizational concerns and where the restrooms, buffet, etc. are located.

They will unfold the envelope containing the exam tickets here, directly in front of the parents (they are separate for each exam day).

– All children are herded out to exams and testing at nine o’clock.

Parents are welcome to eat breakfast at the buffet. Following that, the doctors will be interviewed, as previously mentioned.

After the doctor’s appointment, parents are free from 12:00 to 12:30. You have two options: either stay in the assembly hall and watch war movies and commercials featuring Suvorov cadets, or you can leave the school.

During the hours of 9:00 to (roughly) 10:00, kids will go through psychological evaluations.

Every child will be given three tests and seated in a classroom. Although we haven’t seen these tests, the child claims that they are the following kinds of tests:

* There are sixty logical and psychological questions in the first exam. An average child will be able to respond to twenty to twenty-five questions. Like many psychological tests, the questions are routine and include logical problems interspersed with them.

* For the second test, the kids mark a response after the psychologist reads the questions aloud. "How do you behave in a large company?" is one example.

* Out of about 20 tasks in the third test, "Continue the sentence," 11–15 are completed. As an illustration, "In the evening I usually…"

Parents only learn about the general conclusion of "not recommended/recommended training at SVU" based on the results of the psychological test in the evening during the final meeting; it has no bearing on the points for admission.

It is believed that the selection committee will be able to weed out kids who can’t "get along in the team," "obey," or "live with restrictions" with the aid of such testing.

What’s the issue? The issue is that no child has ever failed one of these tests. This is a strange and unprecedented occurrence for everyone. Additionally, each child’s response to him will be unique. One person will find the questions ridiculous and respond accordingly, another will start to do the same, and a third will become enraged and give inappropriate answers.

Suggestion: The child should demonstrate these kinds of tests; you should work with him to solve logical puzzles; and maybe you should get tested by a licensed psychologist, if only for education purposes.

– Children are registered in writing on the tickets for the jobs that were part of the "Secret Package" starting at 10:00 and continuing until (roughly) 11:00. (Mathematics, foreign language, Russian)

Four tasks total, one of which is more difficult than the others, for each subject. Although the tests are fairly standard and can be found online in abundance, there might be some surprises.

What was not anticipated was:

The tasks in Russian included tests as well as theoretical knowledge requirements. A question like "what is the difference between a preposition and a prefix" is an example of this. The young person must come up with and write a comprehensive response.

Even though the math tasks didn’t seem hard, they were still problems (again, not a test option, when the right answer is selected).

The English tasks are assessments.

Following the written portion, the kids must pass a medical exam in order to be admitted and receive the required amount of physical education.

Like in a typical school, the point system for physical training consists of five points. Average is the total score, which is used to determine physical fitness. In other words, the average score is "4" if the pull-up is "5", the 60-meter is "3," and the 1-kilometer is "4".

* Pull-ups in the weight room. The maximum standard is ten, and the minimum is five. Even those with greater ability won’t be permitted to do it. It’s sufficient because ten times is five.

* 60-meter run: 12 seconds for three, 10.5 seconds for five.

* The hardest physical fitness test is a one-kilometer run. Some kids just don’t get through it. There is an impact from not having much long-distance running experience. It should be up to the child to decide how quickly he wants to finish it. The issue arises from the fact that kids "drive" each other without any experience, which wears them out halfway across. One kilometer has a loose standard that can be run. 5 minutes and 30 seconds was declared as the standard for "excellent." However, many also ran faster, going from 4.10 to 4.40.

At the finish line, a doctor arrives with ammonia and a first aid kit for everyone.

– The kids are released to their parents at 12:30 for a maximum of 1.5 hours, during which they are free to go outside or eat lunch in the school cafeteria.

– Children are taken for a 3-3.5 hour oral exam at 14.00. The most significant and defining portion of the entire exam day is this section.

A subject teacher conducts interviews with each child. Actually, the analysis of a written test for a particular subject forms the basis of the conversation. In Russian, they inquire about the regulations; in mathematics, they want an explanation of the reasoning behind your solutions; in English, you were required to respond to inquiries about yourself.

– After the kids finish the oral exam at around 17:15, they head back to the club, where the Admissions Committee is prepared to share the test results in seven to ten minutes.

When it comes to the thoroughness and meticulousness of the test result discussion, the Admissions Committee’s speed is concerning. It appears that there is a straightforward "technical conveyor" where deliberation and thoughtful decision-making are not tolerated.

The list of competitors and their scores are announced by the Admissions Committee, who also reads out the names of those who were unsuccessful along with the reason.

The mere fact that a child is on the competition list does not guarantee acceptance to the Suvorov Military School. This is merely the list from which the participants will be chosen.

Using our example, on a given competition day, 7 out of 45 children failed the physical examination.minimum, roughly seven to ten were "not recommended" by psychologists, and twenty-one failed the test. A minimum of 29 points was required to be added to the competition list, with 50 points being the maximum that was declared.

The method of assessment and calculation of competition points

We weren’t prepared for it either (because the school website didn’t provide much information):

Each of the three main subjects—mathematics, Russian, and English—has a maximum point value of ten. The standard five-point system is then applied to these ten points, with 5–6 points denoting a C and 3–4 points denoting an unsatisfactory D.

It wasn’t quite apparent how points were assigned. However, we clarified in a private discussion with the academic department’s deputy head that the written portion is actually practice for the oral exam rather than an examination (!).

In the event that the child was unable to provide a detailed response for the written portion of the exam, those responses will not be taken into account.

For physical training, the maximum score is five points, and the average score is determined.

– The exam results are supplemented with the grade 4 report card average. For instance, it could be 4.3 or 4.8 points (with a maximum of 5 points).

– Regarding certificates: only "subject" and athletic accomplishments are considered, but it is mandatory to state the prize position won. are not considered merely for participation.

• For school certificates – for everything, regardless of their number – 0.5 points.
• For prize places in city/district competitions, olympiads, etc.п. – 1 point for each (!) certificate.
• For prize places in regional/Russian competitions, olympiads, etc.п. – 2 points for each (!) certificate.
