Who lives in the Novosibirsk Zoo

One of the biggest zoos in the nation, the Novosibirsk Zoo is named for its longtime director Rostislav Aleksandrovich Shilo. Spanning over 60 hectares, it is home to approximately 11,000 animals representing 770 species! Additionally, the majority of them are rare and are included in Russian or international Red Books.

Cats are the most well-known collection at our zoo. Along with his family, the king of beasts is accompanied by servals, cheetahs, snow leopards, regular and white tigers, and more. I love to watch these elegant "pussies"!

The Novosibirsk Zoo is renowned for its birds in addition to its cats.

And how could you pass by the amusing monkey enclosures without stopping?

Of course, the White Bear family is the primary character and emblem of our zoo.

You will be presented with roughly a dozen options for tours of the zoo, including overview and themed ones. In two hours, you will discover a wealth of fascinating information about the zoo’s past and its many residents.

The grounds of the Zoo in Novosibirsk

Our zoo boasts an enormous array of animals and birds in addition to a large, immaculate walking area. Veterans of Novosibirsk most likely recall the former zoo across from the central market; while it had a fascinating and sizable collection of animals, it was unfortunate due to the noise and crowding of its patrons.

Huge dinosaurs greet us now, just past the tasteful fountain at the entrance. They were among the first people to settle here in the past; seven life-size dinosaur figures were installed in 1991, based on a plan by Rostislav Shilo.

And despite the signs, you can get lost in the network of these long, gorgeous asphalt alleys and paths among the old pine forest. These will undoubtedly lead you to something interesting, like a pond inhabited by swans, a clearing home to deer or camels, or perhaps even to Baba Yaga’s house. Everything in this place, from flower beds and wooden sculptures to tables with carved benches and adorable hippo urns, is thoughtfully designed.

During the dry summer months, the zoo rents out wheelchairs (by appointment) and children’s carts (for kids as young as three years old) for those who, for whatever reason, find it difficult to walk the entire area. You can use the first three hours at no cost.

The Novosibirsk Zoo is the ideal destination for a fun-filled family outing, providing an extensive array of events and attractions that guarantee entertainment for the whole family. It’s an entertaining and educational experience for both children and adults, featuring over 11,000 animals from all over the world, lovely green spaces, playgrounds, cafes, and even a dolphinarium. The zoo offers constant entertainment, whether you’re exploring the animal exhibits, unwinding in the park, or just grabbing a snack.

Attractions and entertainment in the Novosibirsk Zoo

The zoo provides plenty of summertime entertainment options for kids and senior citizens alike. A Ferris wheel with views of a lion and eagles, as well as several parts of the city, is one of the attractions. Other attractions include carousels. A real Indian canoe floats along the canals near the dinosaurs, and a happy little train makes its way between the enclosures.

You are able to ride a donkey, horse, or pony. And there’s a mystical carriage called "Cinderella" for princes and princesses!

Apart from the conventional attractions offered by each park, the Novosibirsk Zoo offers some unique entertainment. As an illustration, consider the Castle of Horror, Baba Yaga’s home, the Nearly Living Dinopark, and the Inverted House.

Attraction fees range from 150 to 350 rubles.

You can also participate in zoo entertainment programs in addition to paying for entertainment. They feature contests, trivia, games, and children’s group concerts on a regular basis. Bear Day, for instance, is on May 26! Did you not know, too? This is the day that our renowned white, brown, and black bears celebrate their birthdays!

It turns out that June 1st is not just Children’s Day but also Ecologist Day. The zoo commemorates the days of the otter, lion, deer, marten, and lynx as well.

Where can you have a snack in the Novosibirsk Zoo

If you’re tired of walking—a walk around the zoo will likely take more than an hour—there are plenty of little cafes to greet you. Some of them, incidentally, are open throughout the winter. The cost of a dish of shish kebab, for instance, is 300 rubles, while boiled corn or cotton candy costs 100 rubles. However, imagine how pleasant it is to sip hot tea (or, conversely, indulge in ice cream during the sweltering months) while taking in the view of the lake, which is home to ducks, geese, and swans, or peacocks strolling just a short distance away!

There’s a coffee shop called "Cup of Coffee" close to the Dolphinarium, not far from the zoo entrance, for those looking to have a planned and sensible lunch. In addition to a children’s section and a cozy interior, the menu is varied and includes Lenten and children’s options.

The typical bill was 700 rubles.

Dolphinarium and oceanarium

The dolphinarium, or more precisely, the Center for Oceanography and Marine Biology "Dolphinia", in less than five years of its existence has become another attraction of Novosibirsk. It is located practically on the territory of the zoo, although you will have to buy a ticket for the show or to visit the exhibition of sea fish in the oceanarium separately.
This is the only place beyond the Urals where you can see a circus show with Pacific dolphins, white whales, sea lions and a walrus. You can even swim with dolphins!
The Oceanarium occupies eight thousand square meters in the basement of "Dolphinia". It has more than 30 marine aquariums and more than 300 inhabitants – fish and sea animals.

All the way through the aquarium is a through tunnel.

Discounts are available; (800) 100-89-88. Show tickets start at 600 rubles, while admission to the Oceanarium costs 500 rubles.

The Novosibirsk Zoo is a great place to spend a whole day having fun and learning—it’snotjust a place to see animals. Every corner of the expansive enclosures, diverse array of species, and exquisitely manicured grounds offers a new discovery.

The variety of attractions, including playful exhibits that appeal to both adults and children and exotic animals, will delight families. There are also lots of spots to unwind, have a bite to eat, and just take in the view, so you could easily spend hours here without feeling rushed.

Novosibirsk Zoo provides an excellent experience for tourists of all ages, whether they’re looking for an educational excursion or just a fun day out. If you’re in the area, you should definitely check it out as it promises to be a fun and memorable experience for all.
