The park is a great place to get away from the bustle of the city because of its lovely green spaces, kid-friendly play areas, and well-kept walking paths. While your children play nearby, you can go for a stroll, have a picnic, or just relax and take in the tranquil surroundings.

From the history of Pervomaysky Park

The Railway Workers’ Culture House, which is currently the Youth Center, was a bustling post-war institution in the Pervomaysky District that hosted numerous children’s clubs that young people from all over the district came to. And that’s when the issue became clear: during the summer, there was nowhere for the district’s students—who were studying at the Culture House—to stroll around and unwind. To address this issue, Alexandra Yegorovna Dragun, the director of the Culture House, made an appeal to the Pervomaysky District Executive Committee. Additionally, the Culture House’s rear 8 hectares of green space were set aside for the park in 1952.

The park was designated as the Pervomaysky Culture and Recreation Park in 1955.

The district’s park evolved into the hub of all cultural and active recreation activities. Numerous events took place in this location, including song festivals, birch festivals, farewells to the armed forces, Children’s Days, Railway Worker Days, Youth Days, and many more. The park featured a reading room, lectures, volleyball and gorodki playgrounds, a shooting range, a number of attractions, and the first children’s railway in Novosibirsk during the summer!

These days, the park hosts a lot of interesting events on weekends and holidays, like master classes, festivals, and music programs. There was a competition for bird feeders in the spring.

So what’s life like in the park on a typical workday?

Alleys in the forest

The first thing you notice when entering the park is the amazing air because the entire area is a forest island, mostly composed of pine forest (although there are areas of poplar and birch as well). It’s peaceful and uncrowded here, and the only thing that reminds you that a busy highway and a major railway junction are close by are the quiet whistles of diesel locomotives.

A bookcrossing cabinet and competitive bird feeders caught our eye. It’s said that squirrels, who visit the park in search of treats, reside there in addition to birds.

The big stage appears very contemporary. It’s unfortunate that the fountain in the middle alley hasn’t been working for a while! And there’s a pretty girl next to it who appears to be from the 1950s.

The park appears to be extremely well-kept and clean overall.

Playgrounds and sports in Pervomaysky Park

We were a little let down by the playground’s broken slide (which, of course, needs to be taken apart for the kids’ safety). At the other end of the park, though, was a contemporary playground that proved to be ample compensation. Parents with children are common, even on weekdays.

A small sports field is present. And for true athletes, there’s a great location behind the Molodezhny Culture Center, right next to Pervomaysky Park.

This is undoubtedly where most kids come to have fun! And with good reason—roughly a dozen and a half attractions in the park operate properly, and the costs—let yourself determine what they are willing to pay.

There are traditional attractions like a chain carousel and "Solnyshko" for children and adults, as well as more modern ones like the vibrant "Kangaroo" and swings featuring pirates and cannons.

Additionally, you can ride the Ferris wheel to the very top of towering pine trees!

Rope park "Slabo"?!

The rope park "Slabo" is one of the guests’ favorite pastimes at Pervomaysky Park. Preschoolers who are 115 cm and taller are allowed to use this route, despite the park’s modest size (it has only two levels). Your instructors are friendly and will guide you through every step with patience. You get the impression that you’re a squirrel moving from tree to tree at a great height!

Where to eat in Pervomaysky Park

In the park, there are a few different kiosks where you can purchase ice cream, milkshakes, or coffee along with a donut.

However, there is just one tiny stationary cafe:

Adjacent to the entrance lies a peculiar sight – a stroller parking area.

They say that it’s practically impossible to get by on the weekends. Therefore, it can be easy to have a snack outside during nice weather, but it can be challenging to eat a proper lunch inside.
